Dreamcar

Dreamcar is an American new wave supergroup formed in 2016, notable for its high-profile lineup consisting of AFI vocalist Davey Havok and the instrumental core of No Doubt (Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Adrian Young). The band represents a significant stylistic departure for all members, moving away from Havok's melodic hardcore roots and No Doubt's ska-punk origins toward a meticulously crafted 1980s New Romantic and synth-pop aesthetic.

Their sound is characterized by Dumont's jangling, chorus-heavy guitar work, Kanal's prominent and often funky basslines, and Havok's dramatic, vibrato-rich vocal delivery. Their 2017 self-titled debut, produced by Tim Pagnotta, received critical attention for its faithful recreation of 80s production techniques, including gated reverb and analog synth textures. While the group went quiet for several years, their 2024 return with the Dream EP and a cover of David Bowie's Moonage Daydream solidified their position as curators of a specific, glam-adjacent new wave revival.
