Endless Blue

Endless Blue is an American trip-hop and downtempo project formed in 2003 by Nick Mitchell and Laura Hillman following the dissolution of the electro-rock outfit STATE4. Based primarily in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the group emerged during the second wave of trip-hop, refining the genre's foundational elements, breakbeats, moody basslines, and ethereal female vocals, with a more polished, melodic sensibility.

Their sound identity is characterized by 'noir' atmospheres and a high degree of sonic cohesion across their discography. Mitchell's production often incorporates live instrumentation, particularly jazz-inflected guitar, which distinguishes them from purely sample-based acts. Critically, they are viewed as torchbearers for the classic Bristol sound, often compared to Portishead or Morcheeba, but with a distinct Midwestern American earnestness. Their work on the Six Bullets soundtrack highlights their cinematic potential. Despite a long hiatus between major releases, their 2020s output shows a continued commitment to high-fidelity, atmospheric electronic music, maintaining a dedicated cult following among crate-diggers and downtempo enthusiasts.
