Slick, piano-driven pop that captures the neon glow of the 1980s. Sophisticated soul and yacht rock textures for late-night drives and sentimental city walks.
Fibes, Oh Fibes! sounds like the platonic ideal of a high-budget 1980s studio session, filtered through a modern Scandinavian lens. Their music is built on a foundation of shimmering electric pianos, tight rhythm sections, and lush brass arrangements that evoke the sophisticated 'Westcoast' sound of Toto or Phil Collins. It is music that feels expensive, polished, and deeply earnest in its pursuit of the perfect pop hook.
What truly distinguishes the band is their commitment to an aesthetic that many of their contemporaries might treat as irony. Instead, they lean fully into the sincerity of blue-eyed soul and adult-oriented rock. Christian Olsson’s vocals are smooth and emotive, gliding over production that balances the organic warmth of analog gear with the crystalline precision of synth-pop. It is a sound that manages to be both nostalgic for a specific era of FM radio and timeless in its melodic craftsmanship.
Start with the album '1987'. It is their definitive statement, a record that successfully bridges the gap between Swedish indie-pop and the grandiosity of Spandau Ballet-era new romanticism. It features collaborations that feel like a passing of the torch, resulting in a collection of songs that feel like instant classics you somehow missed on the first go-around.
