Forss

Forss is the primary musical project of Eric Wahlforss, a Swedish producer and entrepreneur best known globally as the co-founder of SoundCloud. Despite his massive influence on the infrastructure of modern music distribution, his own output as Forss remains a highly respected niche in the downtempo and nu-jazz canon.

Emerging in the early 2000s on the prestigious Sonar Kollektiv label, his debut 'Soulhack' became a touchstone for the 'glitch-hop' movement, blending the soulful sampling of hip-hop with the experimental digital processing of IDM. His sound identity is defined by a 'surgical' production aesthetic: high-fidelity recordings of organic instruments and voices that are then meticulously sliced and reassembled into complex, swinging patterns. His later work, particularly 'Ecclesia', saw an evolution toward 'sacred electronic music', utilizing field recordings from European cathedrals and choral arrangements. Critically, he is viewed as a bridge between the jazz-influenced beatmaking of the 90s and the more abstract, software-driven experimentation of the 21st century.
