From First to Last (FFTL) is a cornerstone of the mid-2000s post-hardcore and emo movement, famously serving as the launchpad for Sonny Moore (Skrillex). Formed in 1999, the band's identity was solidified with their 2004 debut 'Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount,' which blended the technical aggression of post-hardcore with the melodic accessibility of pop-punk.
Their sound is characterized by high-register melodic vocals, aggressive screaming, and intricate guitar work that often utilized unconventional structures for the genre. Culturally, they were pioneers of the 'MySpace band' phenomenon, leveraging digital platforms to build a massive, dedicated following outside traditional radio. Following Moore's departure in 2007, the band evolved through several lineup changes, with guitarist Matt Good taking over lead vocals and exploring a more straightforward alternative rock sound on their self-titled 2008 effort.
