Frost

Frost is a seminal Norwegian electronic duo consisting of Aggie Peterson and Per Martinsen. Formed in Tromsø in 1997, the project emerged from the same fertile Arctic electronic scene that birthed Röyksopp and Bel Canto.

Their sound identity is characterized by 'Arctic Pop', a blend of trip-hop, downtempo, and glitchy electropop that emphasizes spaciousness and crystalline textures. Early collaborations with Torbjørn Brundtland and Rune Lindbæk established their credibility within the Norwegian 'Dub Disco' and house scenes, though they eventually pivoted toward more song-oriented electronic music. Martinsen, also known as Mental Overdrive, brought a techno and industrial pedigree that provided a sophisticated rhythmic backbone to Peterson's melodic, often breathy vocal delivery. Critically, they are regarded as masters of atmosphere, successfully translating the isolation and beauty of Northern Norway into a digital medium. Their work represents a bridge between the 90s trip-hop explosion and the more polished, synth-heavy indie-electronic movements of the 2010s.
