George Kranz

Hyper-rhythmic German synth-pop that turns the human voice into a drum kit. Minimalist, infectious, and built for the center of a 1980s dancefloor.

Intro

George Kranz is the sound of pure, unadulterated rhythm. His music sits at the intersection of German precision and dancefloor euphoria, stripping away melodic clutter to focus on the primal power of the beat. It is music that feels both mechanical and deeply human, characterized by a unique 'drum-talk' style where the vocals serve as an extension of the percussion section rather than a vehicle for storytelling.

What truly sets Kranz apart is his ability to make minimalism feel maximal. By using his voice to mimic snares, hi-hats, and toms, he creates a hypnotic, loop-based experience that predated the rise of modern beatboxing and loop-station culture. The production is crisp and dry, typical of the early 80s transition from disco to synth-pop, but with an eccentric edge that could only come from the Berlin scene.

Start with the classic 'Din Daa Daa' (Trommeltanz). It is a masterclass in tension and release, using nothing but a drum machine, a synth bass, and a vocal performance that has been sampled by everyone from hip-hop legends to pop stars. It is the ultimate 'rhythm-first' track for anyone who values the groove above all else.

George Kranz is a German dance music singer and percussionist. He is best known for his song "Trommeltanz", otherwise known as "Din Daa Daa". The song hit No. 1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1984 and then returned to the chart in a new version in 1991, peaking at No. 8. "Din Daa Daa" (sometimes spelled "Din Da Da") is considered a classic dance music track and has been remixed, sampled and bootlegged many times, including in 1987's seminal "Pump Up the Volume" by MARRS, 1998's Praise Joint Remix by Kirk Franklin, 2005's "Shake" by the Ying Yang Twins, "Turn Around" by Flo Rida an Xbox 360 commercial and a Google Chrome commercial.
