Greenskeepers

Quirky Chicago house grooves meet deadpan indie storytelling. It is the sound of a late-night skate session filtered through a vintage sampler.

Intro

Greenskeepers occupy a unique intersection where the rhythmic precision of Chicago house meets the irreverent spirit of indie rock. Their sound is characterized by infectious, bouncy basslines and a penchant for mid-tempo grooves that feel equally at home in a sweaty underground club or a gritty skate park. There is an inherent warmth to their production, often utilizing analog synths and clever sampling that gives the music a tactile, lived-in quality.

What truly sets them apart is their narrative eccentricity. They are masters of the deadpan delivery, often using spoken-word vocals to tell surreal stories or pay homage to cult cinema icons. This blend of high-energy dance music with darkly humorous, almost literary lyrical content creates a listening experience that is both physically engaging and intellectually stimulating. It is music that does not take itself too seriously while being meticulously crafted.

For those new to the group, the 2005 track Lotion is the essential starting point for its infamous pop-culture ties and signature groove. From there, explore the album Pleasure-O-Matic to hear how they bridge the gap between dance-floor utility and indie-rock songwriting. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who wants their electronic music with a side of personality and a smirk.

Greenskeepers are an indie rock/new wave band from Chicago. Their song "Lotion" is a tribute to the character Buffalo Bill, the fictional serial killer featured in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. "Lotion" also came in at #90 in the 2004 Triple J Hottest 100. Their track "Low & Sweet" was listed in British DJ John Peel's 2001 Festive Fifty. Their song "Vagabond" has been featured in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto IV on the in-game radio station "Radio Broker".
