Greyhaven

Greyhaven (the Oregon/Boston-based trio) represents a specific niche of American progressive metal that emerged in the late 1990s, characterized by a transition from traditional heavy metal toward more atmospheric and art-rock influenced structures. Formed in 1996 by Ethan Matthews and Nate Howard, the band achieved international recognition remarkably early, signing to the prestigious European labels Angular Records and Musea while the members were still in their late teens.

Their sound identity is defined by Matthews' intricate guitar work, which balances neoclassical precision with a pastoral, almost folk-like melodic sensibility, and Howard's versatile vocal delivery. Their sole full-length release in 2000 is considered a cult classic of the 'new wave' of prog-metal, praised for its dynamic range and avoidance of the genre's more aggressive tropes.
