Greys are a Toronto-based quartet that emerged in the early 2010s as a vital part of the Canadian noise rock resurgence. Led by Shehzaad Jiwani, the band initially gained traction with a sound heavily indebted to the Dischord Records catalog and the abrasive textures of Steve Albini-produced acts.
Their debut full-length, 'If Anything' (2014), established them as masters of the short, sharp shock, characterized by angular riffs and socially conscious lyricism. However, their subsequent work, particularly the dual release of 'Outer Heaven' and 'Warm Shadow' in 2016, signaled a shift toward more complex arrangements and sonic experimentation. By 2019's 'Age Hasn't Spoiled You', the band had fully integrated industrial, trip-hop, and psychedelic influences, moving away from traditional song structures in favor of immersive, atmospheric soundscapes. Critically, they are regarded as one of the few contemporary rock bands to successfully bridge the gap between punk's immediacy and the avant-garde's textural depth, maintaining a reputation for intense, high-volume live performances.
