Haywire

Haywire emerged from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in 1982, eventually becoming one of Canada's most successful AOR exports of the late 1980s. Their sound identity is firmly rooted in the 'Can-Con' rock tradition, characterized by high production values, melodic hooks, and a blend of hard rock grit with synth-pop textures.

The band's classic lineup, featuring Paul MacAusland and Marvin Birt, achieved significant commercial success with their first two albums, 'Bad Boys' and 'Don't Just Stand There', the latter of which went multi-platinum in Canada. Culturally, they represent the peak of the Canadian maritime rock scene, proving that world-class arena rock could originate from outside the major hubs of Toronto or Vancouver. Critically, they are viewed as masters of the AOR craft, often compared to peers like Honeymoon Suite and Glass Tiger. While their momentum slowed in the early 90s with the shift toward grunge, they remain a beloved legacy act in Canada, honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Music PEI in 2006. Their influence persists among collectors of 80s melodic rock and AOR enthusiasts globally.
