Kinesthesia

Kinesthesia is a primary alias of Chris Jeffs, a pivotal figure in the UK electronic underground most famously known as Cylob. Active under this moniker between 1993 and 1995, Jeffs used Kinesthesia to explore a specific intersection of 'isolationist' ambient and 'braindance' IDM.

The project is inextricably linked to the Rephlex Records circle, evidenced by the high-profile remixers on the Empathy Box Remixes EP, including Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Mu-Ziq. Sonically, the work is characterized by a deliberate use of lo-fi textures, bit-crushing, and complex rhythmic sequencing that predates the more playful, pop-inflected electronics of his later Cylob work.
