Kraanium

Founded in 2001 by the late Martin Funderud and his brother Mats, Kraanium is a pivotal force in the evolution of Slamming Brutal Death Metal (SBDM). While they began with a foundation in grindcore and black metal, their 2007 shift toward the 'slam' style - pioneered by acts like Devourment - cemented their identity.

Their sound is characterized by a deliberate rejection of technical flash in favor of 'caveman' riffs, ultra-low guttural vocals, and a focus on percussive weight. Despite the tragic passing of Martin Funderud in 2017, the band has continued to release high-caliber material, maintaining their status as one of Europe's most influential extreme metal exports. They occupy a specific niche that bridges the gap between the raw filth of early 2000s underground tapes and the high-production clarity of modern brutal death metal. Their influence is visible in the 'pingy' snare trends and the global proliferation of the slam subgenre.
