Los Shakers

Los Shakers are the definitive architects of the 'Uruguayan Invasion,' a movement that saw South American bands dominate the Argentine and regional charts in the mid-1960s. Formed by brothers Hugo and Osvaldo Fattoruso, the band initially operated as a high-fidelity response to The Beatles, adopting their aesthetics and songwriting structures with uncanny accuracy.

However, their significance transcends mere imitation; they were virtuoso musicians who brought a sophisticated jazz-influenced sensibility to the beat genre. Their 1968 masterpiece, 'La Conferencia Secreta del Toto's Bar,' is widely regarded as the Latin American equivalent to 'Sgt. Pepper,' blending avant-garde studio techniques with indigenous Uruguayan rhythms like candombe. This fusion predated the Tropicalia movement in Brazil and established a blueprint for Latin rock. Following their dissolution in 1969, the Fattoruso brothers continued to influence the global music scene, particularly in jazz fusion and world music circles.
