Heavy, blue-collar rock with a thick Midwestern crunch. It is the sound of high-gain riffs and working-class grit, perfect for long drives and loud bars.
Loudmouth delivers a punchy, high-octane brand of rock that sits right at the intersection of 90s post-grunge and classic Midwestern hard rock. Their sound is defined by thick, saturated guitar tones and a rhythm section that hits with the weight of a sledgehammer. It is music that feels physically heavy but remains anchored by the kind of anthemic hooks designed to cut through the smoke of a crowded dive bar.
What sets them apart is an unpretentious, blue-collar sincerity. While many of their 90s contemporaries leaned into angst or irony, Loudmouth maintained a straightforward, meat-and-potatoes aggression that feels more like a descendant of Grand Funk Railroad than Nirvana. The production is polished enough for the radio but retains a gritty, mechanical edge that suggests it was forged in a Chicago rehearsal space rather than a boutique studio.
Start with their self-titled 1999 debut, specifically the track 'Fly'. It perfectly encapsulates their ability to blend massive, down-tuned riffs with a soaring vocal melody, serving as the ideal gateway into their high-energy, no-nonsense catalog.
Loudmouth is a post-grunge band, formed in 1993. Their songs included "Fly", "What?", and "End of the Century". Their music was featured in the PlayStation game Omega Boost, and having the same song featured in the movie Varsity Blues. Two of Loudmouth's four members are Bob Feddersen and John Sullivan who were both from Oak Lawn, Illinois. Feddersen and Sullivan were previously in the bands Vandal and Full Force. They have been musical partners since they were in junior high, both recently have pursued solo careers. Loudmouth's former bassist, Mike "Flare" Flaherty went on to enjoy limited success with the band No One. Lead Guitarist Tony "Mac" McQuaid has been playing Guitar in two Illinois-based Rock Bands, one named Head on and the other named The Mag 7. LoudMouth released their first CD on Hollywood Records in 1999. It featured the single "Fly" and "Rats in the Maze". John Sullivan and Joe Barresi produced the album that was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge.
