Intro

Mabel Matiz creates a sound world that feels like a modern sanctuary for the restless soul. It is deeply rooted in the melodic traditions of Turkey, yet it is dressed in the sophisticated textures of global art pop and synth-wave. The music carries a distinct weight, balancing the heavy emotional legacy of Anatolian folk with a shimmering, futuristic polish that makes it feel entirely current.

What truly sets him apart is his vocal identity and his willingness to challenge cultural norms. His voice is a versatile instrument, moving from a breathy, intimate whisper to a powerful, resonant croon that ignores traditional gender boundaries. This androgyny is mirrored in his production choices, where traditional instruments like the bağlama might meet a cold, pulsing drum machine or a lush wall of synthesizers.

To experience the full breadth of his vision, start with the album Maya. It serves as a perfect bridge between his earlier acoustic-leaning work and his more recent, expansive electronic experiments. It is an album that feels like a journey through a landscape of memory, identity, and desire, anchored by some of the most infectious yet intelligent pop hooks in the modern Turkish canon.

Fatih Karaca (Turkish pronunciation: [faːˈtih kaˈɾadʒa]; born 31 August 1985), better known by his stage name Mabel Matiz (pronounced [maˈbæl maˈtiz]), is a Turkish pop music singer-songwriter. He chose his stage name from two different words that he was inspired by. "Mabel" is from the Turkish novel Kumral Ada Mavi Tuna by Buket Uzuner. It is the nickname of Tuna, who is one of the main characters. "Matiz" is a slang word in the old Greek language meaning "drunk". "Mabel Matiz" reflects his point of view about the world and life. He has released five studio albums.
