Intro

Maes delivers a sound that is quintessentially modern French rap: a seamless blend of aggressive street narratives and incredibly polished, melodic hooks. His voice often carries a slight metallic sheen from precise auto-tune, allowing him to pivot from rapid-fire verses to anthemic choruses that stick in your head. The production is consistently high-end, featuring deep sub-bass and atmospheric synth pads that create a sense of nocturnal luxury.

What truly sets him apart is his ability to maintain a 'thug' persona while embracing the melodic sensibilities of pop and dancehall. It is music that feels equally at home in a gritty urban setting as it does in a high-end club. There is a specific tension in his work between the cold reality of his lyrics and the warm, inviting nature of his melodies.

Start with the album 'Les Derniers Salopards' to hear him at his commercial and creative peak. It showcases his chemistry with other titans of the scene and highlights his knack for creating tracks that feel both intimate and massive. It is the perfect entry point for anyone looking to understand the current landscape of French hip-hop.

Walid Georgey (born 10 January 1995), better known by his stage name Maes, is a French rapper of Moroccan origin from Sevran. His debut album, Pure (2018), certified triple platinum.
