High-energy British rockabilly with a crooner's heart. Authentic 1950s swagger that balances raw guitar twang with polished teen-idol charm.

Intro

Marty Wilde captures the electric moment when American rock and roll first crashed onto British shores. His sound is a cocktail of rebellious energy and melodic precision, characterized by the iconic slapback echo on his vocals and the sharp, rhythmic bite of the Wildcats. It feels like a time capsule of 1950s youth culture, full of leather jackets and late-night diners.

What sets Wilde apart from his contemporaries is his versatility. While he could deliver a snarling rockabilly anthem with the best of them, he possessed a sophisticated baritone that allowed him to transition into dramatic ballads and traditional pop without losing his edge. His music carries a specific analog warmth that modern recordings struggle to replicate, grounding the listener in a world of tubes and tape.

Start with his early hits like 'Bad Boy' or 'Endless Sleep' to hear the foundation of British rock. These tracks showcase the essential tension between his smooth vocal delivery and the gritty, driving instrumentation that defined an era of musical revolution.

Marty Wilde (born Reginald Leonard Smith; 15 April 1939) is an English singer and songwriter. He was among the first generation of British pop stars to emulate American rock and roll, scoring several 1950s and 1960s hit singles including "Endless Sleep", "Sea of Love" and "Bad Boy". During the late 1960s to early 1980s, Wilde continued to record and, with Ronnie Scott, co-wrote hit singles for others including the Casuals' "Jesamine" and Status Quo's "Ice in the Sun". He is the father of pop singer Kim Wilde and co-wrote many of her hit singles including "Kids in America" with his son Ricky. He continues to perform and record.
