Intro

Mikal Cronin creates music that feels like a California summer viewed through a slightly scratched lens. It is a world where the raw, unpolished energy of garage rock meets the meticulous craftsmanship of 1960s power pop. You get the immediate satisfaction of a driving rhythm section and crunchy guitars, but underneath that surface lies a sophisticated understanding of harmony and arrangement that sets him apart from his more chaotic contemporaries.

What makes Cronin truly distinctive is his ability to weave orchestral elements, like sudden bursts of saxophone or elegant string arrangements, into what would otherwise be straightforward indie rock. This 'baroque-garage' hybrid creates a sense of emotional scale, making personal anxieties and small-town nostalgia feel cinematic. His vocals are often soft and melodic, providing a vulnerable counterpoint to the wall of fuzz that surrounds them.

Start with the album MCII. It is the definitive statement of his sound, featuring hooks that will stay in your head for days alongside production that feels both intimate and expansive. From there, explore Seeker for a more ambitious, full-band approach that leans into his classic rock influences while maintaining his signature melodic grit.
