Muito Kaballa

Muito Kaballa is the creative vehicle for Cologne-based multi-instrumentalist Niklas Mündemann. The project originated as a solo busking act where Mündemann utilized loop pedals to create dense, layered compositions on the street.

This 'one-man-band' foundation remains a core part of the identity, emphasizing rhythmic repetition and gradual builds. In 2019, the project evolved into the Muito Kaballa Power Ensemble, a nine-piece collective that expanded the sound into the realms of Afrobeat, Ethio-jazz, and neo-soul. Their work is characterized by a high degree of rhythmic complexity, often featuring interlocking percussion and bright, punchy brass sections. Critically, they are positioned within the 'New Jazz' movement, sharing a sonic kinship with the London and Melbourne scenes (Surprise Chef, Joe Armon-Jones) but maintaining a distinctively German experimental edge. Their evolution from 'Everything Is Broke' to 'Like A River' shows a move away from purely loop-based structures toward more organic, fluid ensemble playing that emphasizes collective improvisation and warm, analog production values.
