Mushroomhead

Mushroomhead is a cornerstone of the American industrial and alternative metal scenes, emerging from Cleveland in 1993. Founded by drummer Steve 'Skinny' Felton, the band established a unique identity through the use of masks and a rotating collective of musicians, predating and often being compared to Slipknot.

Their sound identity is built on a foundation of industrial-tinged nu-metal, characterized by the use of dual (and sometimes triple) vocalists who provide a 'beauty and the beast' contrast of melodic singing and aggressive screaming. Musically, they incorporate significant electronic elements, including synthesizers and samplers, which add an avant-garde or cinematic quality to their heavy riffage. The band's career arc saw them rise from underground local legends to international prominence with the release of XX and XIII in the early 2000s. Despite frequent lineup changes, they have maintained a consistent aesthetic centered on horror-inspired imagery and high-concept live performances featuring 'water drums.' Critically, they are respected for their independent spirit and their ability to blend disparate genres like hip-hop, techno, and goth rock into a cohesive metal framework.
