Nefandus

Nefandus is a foundational entity in the Swedish Orthodox Black Metal scene, formed in 1993 by Belfagor. Their sound identity is defined by a blend of traditional Swedish melodicism and a more dissonant, ritualistic approach to songwriting.

Unlike many of their contemporaries who focused on lo-fi aesthetics, Nefandus often utilized the Endarker Studio to achieve a production that is clear yet heavy with atmosphere. Their career arc is marked by significant gaps between releases, which has only added to their cult status. They are closely linked to the 'Sitra Ahra' theological movement, which informs their complex lyrical narratives. Critically, they are respected for maintaining a consistent spiritual agenda while evolving their musical complexity. They occupy a similar space to bands like Ofermod and Funeral Mist, serving as a bridge between the raw 90s underground and the more avant-garde religious black metal of the 2000s.
