Nifelheim

Formed in 1990 by brothers Tyrant and Hellbutcher, Nifelheim is a cornerstone of the Swedish 'old school' black metal revival. While their Norwegian contemporaries were exploring ambient textures and folk influences, Nifelheim remained fiercely loyal to the first wave of black metal (Venom, Bathory, Sarcófago).

Their sound is characterized by a high-tempo blend of thrash metal and black metal, often referred to as 'blackened thrash.' A defining feature of their identity is their visual commitment to the genre's traditional aesthetic: leather, spikes, and bullet belts. Musically, they are noted for incorporating sophisticated heavy metal arrangements, particularly the influence of Iron Maiden, into an otherwise primitive and raw framework. Despite critical attempts to label their approach as 'tongue-in-cheek,' the band maintains a dead-serious devotion to their craft and occult themes. They have collaborated with members of Dissection and remain a highly respected entity in the global metal underground for their uncompromising stance against modern production trends.
