Night is a Swedish rock band formed in Linköping in 2011, initially emerging as part of the 'New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal' (NWOTHM) movement. Their early work, such as 'Gunpowder Treason', was characterized by a high-energy homage to early 80s speed metal and NWOBHM.
However, the band underwent a significant sonic evolution, pivoting toward a sophisticated blend of 70s hard rock, proto-metal, and melodic rock. By the release of 'Raft of the World' (2017) and 'High Tides - Distant Skies' (2020), the band had fully embraced an analog-rich, mid-tempo sound reminiscent of Blue Öyster Cult, Thin Lizzy, and early Dire Straits. This transition earned them critical acclaim for avoiding the 'retro' trap by focusing on high-level songwriting and authentic production rather than mere imitation. They occupy a unique space in the Swedish scene, bridging the gap between the heavy metal underground and the broader classic rock revival, often associated with peers like Hällas and High Spirits.
