North Mississippi Allstars represent the vital link between traditional Mississippi Hill Country blues and the modern jam-rock circuit. Formed in 1996 by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, sons of legendary producer Jim Dickinson, the band was born out of the rich musical ecosystem of the Memphis and North Mississippi region.
L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. Luther's slide guitar work and Cody's versatile percussion (including the electric washboard) create a sonic signature that is both archaic and futuristic. Over nearly three decades, they have evolved from blues purists to experimentalists, collaborating across genres with artists like Mavis Staples and John Medeski. Their critical peak in the early 2000s earned them multiple Grammy nominations and established them as leaders of a Southern rock revival that prioritized groove and authenticity over radio-friendly polish. They remain a cornerstone of the American roots scene, maintaining a prolific touring and recording schedule.
