Nunslaughter

Nunslaughter is a cornerstone of the American underground death metal scene, specifically pioneering a style they refer to as 'Devil Metal.' Formed in 1987 in Pittsburgh, the band has maintained a prolific output characterized by an immense volume of split releases, EPs, and live albums, often shunning the traditional album cycle in favor of a constant stream of underground material.

Their sound identity is defined by a 'primitive' approach, eschewing the technical evolution of 90s death metal for a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that draws heavily from early black metal (Venom, Hellhammer) and thrash. Led by Don of the Dead, the band has undergone numerous lineup changes but has never wavered from its commitment to unpolished, analog-heavy production. Critically, they are revered as 'true' death metal purists, maintaining a cult status that bypasses mainstream metal industry standards.
