Sadistic Intent

Sadistic Intent occupies a legendary status within the global death metal underground, primarily due to their longevity and their refusal to follow industry standards. Formed in Los Angeles in 1987 by the Cortez brothers, they became a cornerstone of the California scene, particularly within the Latino metal community.

Their sound is a bridge between the first wave of black metal (Slayer, Possessed, Venom) and the emerging death metal sound of the late 80s. Despite being active for decades, they are famously known for never releasing a traditional full-length studio album, instead building a massive reputation through a series of highly influential EPs and splits. Their sound identity is defined by a 'dark' atmosphere, utilizing cavernous production, tremolo-picked riffs, and a vocal style that sits between a guttural growl and a blackened rasp. Critically, they are viewed as 'purists' who preserved the original spirit of the genre during the mid-90s when many bands were experimenting with melody or industrial elements. Their influence is felt most strongly in the 'Old School Death Metal' (OSDM) revival, where their commitment to raw, analog aesthetics has become a blueprint for younger acts.
