Olive is a British electronic group formed in Sheffield in 1994, consisting of Tim Kellett, Robin Taylor-Firth, and vocalist Ruth Ann Boyle. The group's sound identity is a sophisticated blend of trip-hop, downtempo, and synth-pop, characterized by Kellett's melodic songwriting and Taylor-Firth's background in the Warp Records 'bleep' and chillout scenes.
Their 1996 debut, Extra Virgin, remains a landmark of the era, successfully bridging the gap between underground electronic textures and mainstream chart success. Following the departure of Taylor-Firth, the remaining duo moved toward a more dance-oriented, house-adjacent sound on their second album, Trickle (2000). After a lengthy hiatus during which Boyle pursued solo work and Kellett focused on professional songwriting, the group unexpectedly reactivated in the 2020s with a prolific run of albums including Brianna Font and Hauntology.
