Established in 1977, the American jazz ensemble Pat Metheny Group was founded by guitarist Pat Metheny and pianist Lyle Mays. Throughout its history, the band released music under ECM Records and Warner Bros. Records. The group maintained a core quartet while frequently expanding to include up to eight musicians. Notable long-term contributors included bassist Steve Rodby, drummers Paul Wertico and Antonio Sanchez, and multi-instrumentalist Pedro Aznar, all shaping the band's distinctive jazz sound.
