Peter Erskine is a foundational figure in modern jazz drumming, representing the bridge between the high-octane fusion of the 1970s and the minimalist, 'chamber jazz' aesthetic of the ECM label. Emerging from the big band traditions of Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson, Erskine achieved global prominence as the rhythmic anchor of Weather Report during their most commercially successful era.

His partnership with bassist Jaco Pastorius redefined the modern rhythm section, blending technical virtuosity with a deep, pocket-oriented groove.
