Pressure Drop

Pressure Drop, the London-based duo of Justin Langlands and Dave Henley, emerged from the late 1980s house scene to become pivotal figures in the development of UK downtempo and trip-hop. While their early work as Blood Brothers was rooted in dancefloor-focused house, the formation of Pressure Drop in 1990 signaled a shift toward slower tempos and more complex, cross-genre arrangements.

Their 1992 debut 'Upset' is frequently cited as a precursor to the Bristol-led trip-hop explosion, establishing a blueprint of guest vocalists and live instrumentation over sampled loops. Throughout the 1990s, they refined this aesthetic, moving from the subdued tones of 'Front Row' to the darker, more daring textures of 'Tearing The Silence'. Their sound reached its most cinematic expression on 'Elusive' (1997), which integrated influences from Ennio Morricone and bebop. Critically, they are respected for their ability to balance the digital precision of electronic music with the organic warmth of live jazz and dub, maintaining a consistent 'noir' identity that has made them a staple of the Cafe Del Mar and chillout scenes.
