Intro

Q-Tex is a seminal Scottish electronic group that played a pivotal role in the evolution of Happy Hardcore and Bouncy Techno during the 1990s. Formed in 1991, the group's core identity was shaped by the production prowess of Alan Todd and Scott Brown, the latter of whom is a legendary figure in the hardcore scene.

Their sound bridged the gap between the underground rave culture of the early 90s and the more commercially viable Eurodance-influenced hardcore that followed. Q-Tex was a mainstay of the Evolution Records label, a powerhouse of the Scottish dance scene. Their discography is characterized by high-tempo percussion (typically 160-180 BPM), prominent use of the Roland JP-8000 and Korg M1 piano sounds, and the powerful vocals of Gillian Tennant. Critically, they are regarded as masters of the 'anthem' format, creating tracks that became synonymous with the 'Bouncy Techno' subgenre. Their influence persists in modern UK Hardcore and the recent resurgence of 'fast-dance' and neo-rave aesthetics, maintaining a cult following among crate-diggers and rave historians.
