Raga Rockers

Raga Rockers are a cornerstone of Norwegian rock history, solidified as one of the 'Big Four' (De Fire Store) alongside Jokke & Valentinerne, DumDum Boys, and deLillos. Formed in 1982 by Michael Krohn following his departure from the seminal punk band Kjøtt, the group transitioned from raw post-punk into a more melodic but no less biting form of alternative rock.

Their sound is defined by Krohn's distinctive baritone and deadpan delivery, which serves as the vehicle for some of the most celebrated satirical lyrics in the Norwegian language. Musically, they favor driving 4/4 rhythms, prominent basslines, and a dual-guitar attack that balances garage-rock simplicity with post-punk texture. Throughout the 1980s, albums like 'Maskiner i Nirvana' and 'Forbudte følelser' defined the urban Norwegian experience, moving away from the rural themes of previous generations. Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, including the tragic death of guitarist Bruno Hovden in 1985, the band has maintained a consistent cultural presence. They are critically regarded as the 'intellectual punks' of their scene, influencing decades of Norwegian-language rock by proving that local lyrics could be both commercially viable and artistically subversive.
