Intro

Ryan Lott creates music that feels like a living, breathing machine. It is a world where the organic warmth of a piano or a string quartet is meticulously disassembled and reconstructed into something futuristic and alien. The sound is often characterized by a 'brittle' beauty, where delicate melodies are surrounded by sharp, stuttering rhythms and lush, expansive atmospheres that feel both intimate and cosmic.

What truly sets Lott apart is his mastery of texture and timing. He treats every sound, from a vocal intake of breath to a slamming door, as a musical instrument. His work often features sudden shifts in density, moving from a single, lonely synth line to a towering wall of sound in a way that feels purposeful rather than chaotic. It is the sound of a composer who thinks like a programmer and a choreographer simultaneously.

For those new to his solo work, the soundtracks for 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' or 'Tell Me Why' offer a perfect entry point into his ability to marry high-concept experimentation with deep emotional resonance. If you prefer his more abstract, machine-led explorations, 'learning structures' showcases his talent for finding rhythm in the mechanical.

Ryan Lott (born January 24, 1979) is an American musician. He is the only founding member of the experimental trio Son Lux. He is also a member of Sisyphus and has scored the soundtracks for a number of films, most notably Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), Mean Dreams (2017), Paper Towns (2015), and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2013). In 2020, Lott composed the soundtrack for the adventure game Tell Me Why. In 2022, he released a course on designing sample-based instruments with online music school Soundfly.
