Sad

Sad is a Greek black metal project formed in 2005 by Ungod (Insidius Infernus) and Nadir. The duo established a sound rooted in the 'Depressive Suicidal Black Metal' (DSBM) tradition, though they lean more toward the raw, minimalist end of the spectrum rather than the atmospheric or ambient side.

Their debut, 'Total Nothingness', was famously recorded in under ten hours, setting a precedent for a prolific and unpolished output that prioritizes emotional immediacy over technical perfection. Throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, they became a staple of the underground tape and small-label circuit, known for a 'no keyboards, no samples' philosophy that stood in contrast to the increasingly symphonic black metal scene. Their work is characterized by high-pitched tremolo picking, a lack of traditional song structures in favor of hypnotic loops, and a lyrical focus on pessimism and human frailty. Critically, they are regarded as purists of the raw black metal form, maintaining a consistent aesthetic of 'dismal' music that serves as a bridge between the classic second-wave sound and the more modern, introspective DSBM movement.
