Scorn

Deep, sub-heavy electronic pulses that feel like the city breathing at 4am. Minimalist dub for dark rooms and solitary night walks.

Intro

Scorn is the sound of the city's underbelly, stripped of its neon and reduced to a rhythmic, low-frequency throb. It is music that occupies the physical space of a room, driven by basslines so deep they feel more like a change in air pressure than a melody. The percussion is skeletal and patient, echoing through vast, artificial caverns of reverb that suggest a world of concrete and steel.

What makes Mick Harris's work distinctive is the absolute commitment to minimalism and the 'isolationist' atmosphere. While it shares DNA with dub and trip-hop, it lacks the warmth or pop-sensibility of those genres. Instead, it offers a hypnotic, almost claustrophobic experience where the silence between the beats is just as heavy as the bass itself. It is the sound of a master drummer exploring the slowest possible tempos.

Newcomers should start with 'Evanescence' to hear the project at its most hauntingly melodic, or 'Gyral' for the pure, stripped-back essence of Harris's solo vision. It is best experienced at high volume on speakers that can handle extreme low-end, or on high-quality headphones during a period of total solitude.

Scorn is an English electronic music project. The group was formed in the early 1990s as a project of former Napalm Death members Mick Harris and Nic Bullen. Bullen left the group in 1995, and the project continued on a solo project for Harris until 1997. Scorn was relaunched in 2000 and operated until the end of 2011. Harris restarted the project, once again, in 2019, but stopped it in late 2022.
