Sinner

Sinner is a cornerstone of the German heavy metal scene, founded in 1980 by Mat Sinner. While many of their contemporaries like Helloween pushed toward the speed and fantasy of power metal, Sinner maintained a firmer grip on traditional hard rock and heavy metal foundations.

The band's history is marked by a significant evolution: their early 80s output was raw and aggressive, but by the mid-80s, particularly with the addition of guitarist Herman Frank, they pivoted toward a more melodic and commercially viable sound. Mat Sinner's dual role as bassist and vocalist gives the band a rhythmic density often missing in guitar-centric metal. His later involvement in Primal Fear created a cross-pollination of fans, though Sinner remains the more 'rock and roll' of his projects. Critically, they are respected for their longevity and consistency, surviving the grunge era by leaning into a heavier, more modern production style in the 90s.
