High-velocity melodic black metal with a medieval heart. Triumphant, icy, and spiritually charged anthems for the modern warrior.
Slechtvalk delivers a sound that is simultaneously freezing and fiercely communal. It is melodic black metal that trades the genre's typical nihilism for a sense of epic, spiritual warfare. The guitars are a whirlwind of tremolo picking and soaring leads, underpinned by a relentless battery of blast beats that never lose their rhythmic clarity.
What truly sets them apart is the integration of folk and symphonic elements without losing the 'blackened' edge. While many peers lean into the murky or the lo-fi, Slechtvalk opts for a more muscular, polished production that highlights the technicality of their riffs and the grandiosity of their synth arrangements. It feels like a charge across a frozen battlefield.
For those new to the band, their mid-career work offers the perfect balance of aggression and melody. It is the ideal soundtrack for moments requiring high-stakes focus or a surge of adrenaline, providing a sense of purpose and victory through its dense, cold textures.
Slechtvalk (the Dutch word for peregrine falcon) is a Christian black metal band from the Netherlands, formed in 1999. Previously signed to Fear Dark Records and currently to Whirlwind Records, the group has released five albums, a split-CD with Kekal, a single and a DVD. Their second album, The War That Plagues the Lands, reached No. 2 at Lowland's Top 50 Metal Charts. Their third album, At the Dawn of War, coincided with the release of a live-DVD, Upon the Fields of Battle, a maxi single for "Thunder of War", and was named one of HM Magazine's "100 best Christian metal albums of all time". The band's fifth album, Where Wandering Shadows and Mists Collide, was released on December 20, 2016.
