Sorhin

Sorhin is a seminal but often overlooked fixture of the second wave of Swedish black metal, formed in Borlänge in 1993. Their sound identity is defined by the 'No Fashion' aesthetic: high-gain, treble-heavy guitar work, relentless blast beats, and a focus on minor-key melodicism that feels both regal and decayed.

Unlike the more symphonic elements of their contemporaries, Sorhin maintained a stripped-back, 'necro' approach to production that aligned them with the raw black metal movement while retaining the distinctively Swedish knack for memorable, icy riffs. The band's history is deeply intertwined with other titans of the scene; Shamaatae of Arckanum and Zathanel of Setherial both served as drummers, cementing Sorhin's position in the inner circle of Swedish extremity. Their discography, though relatively small, is highly regarded by collectors for its purity and refusal to adapt to the more commercial 'black 'n' roll' or symphonic trends of the late 90s. Critically, they are viewed as a bridge between the primitive demos of the early 90s and the more structured, melodic aggression that would define the Swedish sound for decades.
