Soundpool emerged from the New York City 'newgaze' scene of the mid-2000s, distinguishing themselves through a bold integration of disco and funk elements into a traditional shoegaze framework. Formed in 2005, the five-piece band moved beyond the static noise-pop of their debut 'On High' to embrace a more rhythmic, dance-oriented sound on subsequent releases like 'Dichotomies & Dreamland' and 'Mirrors in Your Eyes.'
Their sound identity is defined by the contrast between Kim Field's breathy, ethereal vocals and a high-energy rhythm section, often featuring prominent, melodic bass work.
