Tantric

Tantric emerged from the dissolution of Days of the New, carrying forward that band's signature blend of acoustic-driven rock but infusing it with a more traditional hard rock energy and mainstream accessibility. Formed in 1998, the original lineup featured three-quarters of the original Days of the New roster, though vocalist Hugo Ferreira quickly became the band's defining identity and sole constant member.

Their sound was heavily shaped by producer Toby Wright, who applied the same dense, multi-tracked vocal harmony techniques he utilized with Alice in Chains, leading to frequent critical comparisons between the two bands. Culturally, Tantric represents the peak of the post-grunge era, successfully bridging the gap between the raw angst of the 90s and the polished production of the 2000s. Their evolution is marked by the introduction of electric violin, which moved them away from pure grunge revivalism into a more eclectic, almost symphonic hard rock space. Despite numerous lineup changes, Ferreira has maintained a consistent aesthetic of brooding, introspective lyricism and thick, harmonized vocal arrangements.
