The Head Cat

The Head Cat is a rockabilly supergroup that serves as a bridge between the 1950s rock and roll explosion and the 1980s heavy metal and psychobilly scenes. Formed in 1999 by Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead), Slim Jim Phantom (The Stray Cats), and Danny B.

Harvey (The Rockats), the group originated from a shared love for the foundational artists of the Sun Records era. While Lemmy is globally recognized for the high-volume assault of Motörhead, The Head Cat reveals his deep roots in melodic, rhythmic early rock, though his signature gravelly vocal delivery remains intact. The band's sound is characterized by Harvey's virtuosic finger-picking, Phantom's standing percussion style, and Lemmy's distorted take on traditional bass lines. Following Lemmy's death in 2015, the band continued with David Vincent (formerly of Morbid Angel), maintaining the tradition of extreme metal vocalists paying homage to rock's origins. Critically, they are viewed as a high-integrity tribute to the genre, eschewing modern polish for a raw, authentic aesthetic that appeals to crate-diggers and metalheads alike.
