The band's early work was heavily shaped by collaborations with Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie) and Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger), establishing a 'supergroup' pedigree within the Barsuk Records stable. Critically, they are lauded for their 'hyper-literate' lyrics, which often explore themes of travel, regret, and social friction with a cynical yet romantic edge.
