The Railway Children are a seminal British jangle pop band formed in Wigan in 1984. Their career is notable for an early association with Tony Wilson's Factory Records, where they released the critically acclaimed debut Reunion Wilderness in 1987.

This era established their sound: a blend of shimmering guitars and Gary Newby's melodic, wistful vocal delivery. They subsequently moved to Virgin Records, transitioning toward a more polished, commercially viable sound that culminated in the 1990 hit Every Beat of the Heart, which reached #1 on the US Modern Rock tracks.
