The Rods

The Rods are a seminal American heavy metal power trio formed in 1980, led by David 'Rock' Feinstein (formerly of Elf and cousin to Ronnie James Dio) and drummer/producer Carl Canedy. Emerging during the rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, The Rods provided a distinctively American counterpoint: a blue-collar, no-frills approach that blended the rhythmic swing of 70s hard rock with the increased distortion and speed of the 80s metal scene.

Their early 80s output, particularly 'Wild Dogs' and 'In the Raw,' is highly regarded by collectors for its raw production and aggressive energy. Carl Canedy's parallel career as a legendary thrash metal producer (Anthrax, Overkill) deeply informed the band's percussive, high-impact sound. Despite a hiatus in the late 80s due to shifting industry trends, their 21st-century reunion has seen a return to form with 'Brotherhood of Metal' and 'Rattle the Cage,' maintaining their reputation as stalwarts of traditional heavy metal. They remain a 'musician's band,' cited for their technical efficiency and pure sonic power.
