The Underdog Project

Sun-drenched Eurodance that bridges the gap between soulful R&B and the high-energy pulse of a Mediterranean beach club. The ultimate soundtrack for endless summers.

Intro

The Underdog Project sounds like the exact moment the sun hits its peak over a crowded beach club. It is a vibrant, high-gloss fusion of Eurodance energy and smooth, soulful R&B vocals that feels both nostalgic and perpetually ready for the party. The production is characterized by bright, optimistic synth lines and rhythmic patterns that often lean into the syncopated swing of UK Garage and 2-step, giving it a more sophisticated groove than standard four-on-the-floor dance music.

What truly distinguishes them is the vocal interplay between Vic Krishna and Craig Smart. Unlike many of their Eurodance contemporaries who relied on anonymous diva vocals, The Underdog Project utilized male-led harmonies that brought a genuine R&B warmth to the electronic textures. This 'urban' edge allowed their music to travel from the underground clubs of Germany and Belgium to mainstream radio across the globe without losing its club-ready credibility.

To experience their definitive sound, start with the original version of 'Summer Jam'. It perfectly encapsulates their ability to blend an acoustic guitar hook with a driving dance beat. From there, move to 'Saturday Night' for a more direct club energy, or explore the various remixes that have kept their catalog alive in European DJ sets for over two decades.

The Underdog Project is a German dance group which launched its first album, It Doesn't Matter in 2001. Their hits include "Saturday" (not to be confused with "Saturday Night"; this was not released until two years after the album had come out), "Summer Jam" and "Tonight". The band has four members: Vic Krishna (vocals), Craig Smart (vocals), DJ Frank (remixes) and AJ Duncan (keyboards).
