Thunderstone

Thunderstone emerged from Helsinki in 2000, founded by guitarist and producer Nino Laurenne. As the owner of Sonic Pump Studios, Laurenne ensured the band possessed a professional, high-fidelity sound from their inception, which helped them secure a deal with Nuclear Blast.

Their sound is a quintessential example of the Finnish power metal explosion of the early 2000s, characterized by neoclassical keyboard melodies, rapid-fire double-bass drumming, and anthemic songwriting. While they share DNA with contemporaries like Stratovarius and Masterplan, Thunderstone is distinguished by a 'dirtier' heavy metal influence and Pasi Rantanen's gritty, hard-rock-inflected vocals. 0 and Dirt Metal, before returning to their roots with 2016's Apocalypse Again. They remain a staple of the European metal circuit, respected for their technical consistency and Laurenne's significant role as a producer for the broader Finnish metal scene.
