TNT (Brazil) is a foundational pillar of the 'Rock Gaúcho' scene, emerging from Porto Alegre in the mid-1980s. Unlike the Norwegian metal band of the same name, this TNT specialized in a revivalist rock and roll sound that drew heavily from the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the 1960s mod aesthetic.
Formed by Flávio Basso and Charles Master, the band became a breeding ground for talent, with Basso later forming the equally influential Os Cascavelletes and eventually the psychedelic solo project Júpiter Maçã. Their sound identity is defined by a rejection of the synth-heavy production common in 1980s pop, opting instead for a raw, guitar-driven approach that emphasized melody and teenage rebellion.
