Uplifting 90s house with a soulful baritone heart. Bright piano chords and driving rhythms that feel like a sunrise on the dancefloor.
Tony Di Bart captures the specific, sun-drenched optimism of mid-90s UK house music. His sound is built on a foundation of classic piano stabs, driving percussion, and synth-bass grooves that demand movement. Unlike many of his contemporaries who leaned into high-pitched divas, Di Bart's baritone delivery adds a grounded, soulful weight to the euphoric production, creating a unique tension between the club-ready beats and his earnest vocal performance.
What makes him distinctive is the 'everyman' quality he brought to the dancefloor. His music doesn't feel like an untouchable studio creation; it feels like a shared moment of joy. The production often utilizes the Korg M1 organ and piano sounds that defined the era, but Di Bart's phrasing leans into R&B and soul traditions, giving the tracks a melodic depth that helped them cross over from underground clubs to the top of the pop charts.
Start with the Joyride remix of 'The Real Thing' to hear the definitive intersection of pop accessibility and house energy. From there, explore 'Do It' for a similar burst of high-energy motivation, or his cover of 'Turn Your Love Around' to see how he adapts classic soul songwriting to a 4/4 electronic context.
Antonio Carmine Di Bartolomeo (born 24 August 1964, Slough, Buckinghamshire – now Berkshire, England) is an English singer performing under the stage name Tony Di Bart. Di Bart is best known for his single "The Real Thing" which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1994. Di Bart began his career as a bathroom salesman in Iver, Buckinghamshire, before achieving chart success. He topped the charts in the United Kingdom for one week during May 1994, with a remixed version of his co-written release from November 1993, "The Real Thing". Di Bart's subsequent singles did not achieve the same level of commercial success. He still makes appearances when requested, and was one of the judges at a village fete in Iver, Buckinghamshire, in July 2013 and in Skegness, Lincolnshire, in 2014, as he continues to promote "The Real Thing". In June 2023, Di Bartolomeo was found guilty at Reading Magistrates' Court of assaulting a police officer.
