ULTRABOSS is the primary creative vehicle for Austrian guitarist and producer PJ d'Atri. Since its inception in 2016, the project has been a cornerstone of the 'shredwave' movement, a niche within the broader synthwave scene that prioritizes high-level guitar virtuosity.

d'Atri's background in neoclassical metal and jazz fusion is evident in his complex harmonic choices and fluid alternate picking, which he integrates into a framework of 1980s-inspired electronic production. The project evolved from a purely instrumental endeavor into a more collaborative effort, notably featuring Swedish vocalist Robert Beachgrove, whose AOR-style delivery pushed the sound toward a 'Yachtwave' or synth-infused Yacht Rock aesthetic. d'Atri's frequent collaborations with Cody Carpenter (son of director John Carpenter) further cement his status within the retro-synth elite. Critically, ULTRABOSS is praised for its high production values and for bridging the gap between the electronic 'outrun' aesthetic and the technicality of 80s guitar heroes like George Lynch or Eddie Van Halen.
